Week 8 College Football Picks
2009-10-24 11:12:24

As per usual, here are my picks for this week along with a score prediction in brackets. Home teams are in CAPS. Take these picks for what they are. I'm no pro. In fact, I'd love to be wrong about the top 3 teams in the BCS this week:

#2 ALABAMA over Tennessee (27-14) Final: 12-10
#5 CINCINNATI over Louisville (34-10) Final: 41-10
#10 MIAMI over Clemson (28-26) Final: 40-37 OT
WASHINGTON over #11 Oregon (33-30) Final: 43-19
#13 Penn State over MICHIGAN (24-13) Final: 35-10

USCFanDan said..."USC just got by Oregon St.. USC's loss and failure since then to score decisive wins is scary. Oregon, Arizona, and Stanford top the list of the teams that must be licking their chops at having good chances this year. Hopefully, USC will gel next week."

Dave (USCBlitz.com) said..."It hasn't been as pretty or as easy as we'd like but I'm pretty happy with USC's position right now. For now and for the future. Carroll gets all the credit in the world for trusting his instincts in the decision to let Barkley take control of this team. Going to Autzen is going to be another tough test. Just like @ Ohio State and @ Washington and @ California and @ Notre Dame all were. Getting through this season with 1-loss would be a spectacular achievement. But as always, 1 game at a time. FIGHT ON, BEAT THE DUCKS!"

ron said..."Dave, I've been busy with work, haven't had a chance to chime in. The D has really disappointed me and the SC faithful the last two weeks. Seemed like most of the second half, ND and Ore St marched down the field at will, getting no resistance out of USC's D. Barkley's looking good for a true freshman. The thing to remember is, not only is Barkley in his first year, but so too is Jeremy Bates, the QB coach, and OC. Barkley is coming at things from HS, Bates from the NFL. So this is existentially the most inexperienced situation you can have: newbies to the college game who are obviously also new to each other. This first year is the worst it's going to get in terms of understanding each other, the offense, etc. Each game they get better, together, and each year they will get better together. Watch out in 2010 and 2011."

USCFanDan said..."At AZ St. USC looks inept. Freshman QB is not working out for them. "

Dave (USCBlitz.com) said..."Hey Ron good to hear from you. I agree on your analysis of Barkley and Jeremy Bates. I've been impressed at times and seen the potential, but there is also a clear lack of experience from the both of them. Pete's QB decision may or may not have yielded the best results for 2009, but there's little doubting in my mind that this year will pay big dividends in the years to come. Hey Dan, do you think Mustain or Corp is the better alternative to Barkley? I'm still not sure."
