USC vs. Ohio State - 3 Reasons To Be Excited As A Trojan Fan
2008-09-09 17:28:24

Here's the cover of the offensive playbook for Virginia week, courtesty of USCRipsIt.com

The blitz is back for Ohio State week, and what a week it is. This game has been hyped since it was first announced and the anticipation has only grown since the season's start. Ohio State managed to navigate a couple soft opponents in the first two weeks, and they stand at 2-0. Here are 3 reasons why I think USC Trojan fans should feel confident heading into this monumental game.

1) We aren't the only people that love us...

It sounds simple, but it's true. The "experts" in vegas currently have USC as 10.5 point favorites. The national media also appeared to take a big turn to towards the Trojans after the Buckeyes really struggled at home on the weekend against an inferior Ohio squad. Some people (rightfully) worry that all the attention USC is receiving can be a bad thing. But this Trojan team has plenty of reasons to be hungry and Pete Carroll knows how to control his teams' emotions as well as any coach in college football.

2) The Coliseum

When you matchup talent as close as you do with these 2 teams, small things matter...a lot. It's a long way from Ohio to Southern California. The Coliseum will be a hostile place, nothing the Buckeyes can't handle, but it's not a place that has been kind to visitors in the last half decade.

3) Leadership

The leader of this USC football team? How about Mark Sanchez, Rey Maualuga, Kevin Ellison, Jeff Byers for just a few names that come to mind. They're the players who take a team on their shoulders for a game, or a season, or whatever it takes to get it done. They keep the rest of the team focused. Ask me the same question about Ohio State, I'd struggle to give you 1 or 2. That's not to say they don't have leaders, I'm sure they do. It will be interesting to watch which Buckeye players step up in this huge game.

A couple tidbits courtesy of some reader emails. A great YouTube video called "Crack Those Nuts" that is a must watch for USC-OSU week. Also, OneDegree.com, a social-networking site, is hosting a tailgate bash before the Ohio State game. It sounds like there will be free food and beer and all sorts of good stuff, you should give it a look.

More to come throughout the week. Fight On Trojans!
